Reebok Classic – you can’t get classier than this!
The Reebok Classic didn’t get its name without good reason. Its design is classically cool and its history goes way back.
Once upon a time…
It was in the year 1895 in northern England – more specifically in tranquil Bolton – that the company J.W. Foster and Sons, which specialized in running shoes, was founded. A quarter of a century later, the family business equipped the British athletes at the 1924 Summer Olympics with running shoes. In doing so the business became more well-known, before fading into obscurity again. But then came the year 1958 when two grandchildren of the founder re-named the business as Reebok and breathed new life into it. The label finally had its big break in the 1980s, when it became popular for the most part due to its brightly coloured designs for shoe-loving women.
The Freestyle and other predecessors
The brand’s constant rise in popularity was above all thanks to the launch of the Freestyle model in 1982. For this shoe, which was both comfortable and stylish, coincided just perfectly with the beginning of the aerobics era. Most importantly, it was the first shoe which was specially designed for women. The Freestyle’s bright colours, as well as its suitability not only as a sport but also as a lifestyle shoe, made it the must-have shoe of the 1980s, which is why its style continues to this day to be considered as typical of those brightly coloured times. Now it goes by the name of Reebok Classic and is the absolute in-shoe among trendsetters. Its style has also been influenced by other models such as the Reebok Classic Leather, the Workout, the Ex-O-Fit and the Newport Classic.
Reebok - so much more than just a label
But Reebok can do so much more than just produce cool, timeless trainers! The label champions human rights and fair production conditions – in 2004 it was even the first business to be officially recognised by the Fair Labor Association. Aside from that, it is the exclusive outfitter for many first-class leagues such as the NBA. Even the 1. FC Köln was equipped by Reebok from 2008 to 2012. But Reebok would not be Reebok if it didn’t stay true to its British roots! And so it also sponsors the premier league club Bolton Wanderers. The connection runs so deep that the team’s stadium was even called the Reebok Stadium until 2014. In addition, Reebok constantly manages to get prominent designers on board. World-famous celebrities such as Alicia Keys, 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Kendrick Lamar, Travi$ Scott and Kid Ink have already worked together with the label. The hip-hop producer Swizz Beatz is even the creative director of Reebok.
